The lesson on February 23, 2014 continued the “Ephesians” study with part 17. As usual, a review of previous truths taught from the previous lessons but the focus with this lesson was on Ephesians 4.  Chapter 4 starts with PAul sayiing that we should be worthy of the calling by which we have been called.  The Greek word for calling is used to describe adoption and learn that there are three separate adoptions with three separate callings.  The first was the calling is associated the land grant promised to Abraham and his seed.  This adoption is for Israel.  The second calling was for New Jerusalem and New Covenant which also is for Israel.  The last adoption is in Ephesians, chapter 1, verse 5.  This adoption of for us… but specifically for those who accept the gospel of the unsearchable riches of Christ.  If you accept this calling, you are a member of the body of Christ.  If not, you have received eternal life but are considered to be guests of other callings.  You must understand your calling so you won’t try to steal what is not yours!  The scripture reading was in 1 Corinthians 12:27-31 KJV

“27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? 30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? 31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.”
