The study series was started on January 17, 2010 by Derek McCammon on 2 Timothy 1:1-7 KJV "1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus, 2 To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day; 4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy; 5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. 6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. 7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
The lesson on January 17, 2010 was given by Derek McCammon on 2 Timothy 1:3-7 KJV "7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." There is evil in the world. We have challenges as Christians dealing with fear and it was the same thing that Timothy had a problem with. Timothy had challenges in Ephesus. Perhaps fear came to him because he was young. There were others that were smarter than him that were causing challenges in his ministry. In 1 Timothy 4:14 Paul was speaking of his gift, reminding him that God has given him the tools to be of sound mind. In chapter 6:17, we see that there are some rich people that Paul is reminding Timothy to address so they use their wealth wisely. When we were saved, God called us into the ministry and He has not left us alone. God tells us that there will be godly suffering in our walk. In 2 Timothy 1:8 Paul says not be ashamed of Christ and his ministry. Paul says God hasn't given US the spirit of fear.
