her of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even
weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)” There are many facets to the
statement “enemies of the cross of Christ” that can apply to us today. One example in America is the attack on any cross that is displayed on government
property. People have sued to have these crosses removed because it offends them and their beliefs. These have used
organizations like the ACLU to claim it violates the separation of church and state (which is a bold face lie, for no such statement exists in America’s
founding documents). The lesson on August 6, 2006 teaches on this phenomenon and encourages all Christians to take a stand vs. standing by
and letting the enemy advance. It uses a current story about a large cross in San Diego that has been sued to be removed from Mt. Soledad war memorial. There was a handout with this lesson. Click here to listen now.
Old Testament Study - Part 18
- The Old Testament to a new believer in Christ can be awkward to read and can be cumbersome at first. Derek shares the story of how he felt as a young Christian
boy getting inspired to grow by reading scripture... but when he got past Genesis 1:1, it became a
burden. The reason we have taken time out to look at the Old Testament is to encourage you as a
Christian to understand the issues in the New Testament because most of the Gospels and books
written during the Acts period deal with truths from the Old Testament. The call to rightly divide
scripture requires the workman to get after it and read to compare the scriptures. The lesson on
August 13, 2006 covers the passages in Jeremiah 23:5-8 which explains the mindset of the nation
Israel when the birth of the Lord occurred. Another passage covered was in Isaiah 11:11a (KJV) which says “And it shall
come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people...” Further, a passage in Ezekiel 37:21 says “And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the children of
Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:” Verse 22-28 continues the thought of making them one Nation under God and for them to receive a new covenant
(v.26) that would enable Israel to keep the statues of God and do them forever more. The New Covenant is promised to
the nation of Israel and not to Christians. This is what is stated in Jeremiah 31:31 and Hebrews 8:8. This gives us the hope of Israel in the Gospels as the Bride of Christ. The Church, or members of the Body of Christ in The Mystery have different promises and blessings. This is the eighteenth lesson in the series. Click here to listen now.
Old Testament Study - Part 19 (final of the series)
- It seems by the mainstream denominations, they constantly teach on the practical things in life. They tend to bring those things out of the
Gospels and books of the Acts period, when what we have in The Mystery provides us truths that
bring it all together. When we leave the Acts period we get into the Pauline epistles that provides a
distinct delineation from the promises made to Israel and the promises made to the members of the
body of Christ. Christ sits far above principalities and powers at the right hand of God because of
the promises made to His son. We sit there with Christ because we receive what was promised to
Christ! This lesson on August 20, 2006 finishes the Overview of the Old Testament series. The
series looked at how the Old Testament promises to Israel continue on in the New Testament and all
the way through the Acts. It looks at the reference to the name “sheep” which is tied to Israel and
“shepherd” that applies to the Lord. We never find sheep in Paul’s prison epistles. The lost sheep applies to Israel and the
dry bones. Further, we learn in Romans 8:28 (KJV) “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love
God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” The point is that God has a purpose and therefore He has
callings. This isn’t your purpose but God’s purpose and we need to be respectful of that. The mindset of Israel was to
find the kingdom on heaven on earth. Even Jesus taught the disciples to pray ”thy kingdom come”. We see in Matthew
15:22-24 Jesus ignoring a gentile woman and tells his disciples that he wasn’t sent but to the lost sheep of the house of
Israel but later when she worshiped Him he rewarded her faith. Faith comes by our active participation in the word of God
. The lesson covers the story of the centurion in Matthew 8:5 where he demonstrates the faith that was better than what
the Lord had found in Israel. By grace we are saved through faith as said in Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace are ye saved
through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” The bottom line on the purpose behind this series was to
study the Old Testament to be able to identify kingdom truths vs. church truth and not confuse the two and find approval in God’s eyes. Click here to listen now.
The Twofold Purpose of The Mystery - Part 1
- The lesson on August 27, 2006 begins a series on the twofold purpose of The Mystery. This study will show you that there is a great need for you
to understand scripture. The ignorance of scripture has to be removed in order to have a proper
relationship with God. The problem with churches now a days is they focus on the ignorance within
you by providing varying groups that focuses on the problem instead of replacing the focus on Christ
. Those are called Seeker classes or churches. The problem with Seeker classes is that you’ve
replaced theology with philosophy. If you read Ephesians 3:1-12, you will find the first purpose in verse 9 where it says “... to make all men (saints) see what is the fellowship of the mystery...”. We
see Paul praying in Ephesians 1:17, 18a for our enlightenment on who Christ Jesus is. Faith comes
from believing what God has said (DIPOG - Divinely Implanted Principles of God) which means taking
those and putting them into practice. Trusting in God and His principles is the exercise of faith and
that’s where we get the lessons that God wants to teach us in life. The second purpose of the Mystery is in verses 10 and 11. ”To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be
known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:” The principalities and powers are seeing the body of Christ in action fulfilling God’s eternal purpose. As a
student of scripture, you should learn that certain words used should grab your attention. Word’s like “but”, “wherefore”,
“now”, and “but now” show emphasis in what’s being told to you so they should grab your attention. Chapter 3 starts with
“For this cause”... and with the rest of the verses we find the very important truth that Christ’s faith has made us whole
(verse 12 - “In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of Him.”) Click here to listen now or go to the entire series here.
