Romans 1

“Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. [22] Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, [23] And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Knowing The Truth

A wise man once said, “When a person who is honestly mistaken hears the truth, he then ceases to be mistaken or he ceases to be honest.” James said something comparable:

“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” James 4:17

Just One Word

What a change one word can make in studying God’s word. I recently heard a message that reversed God’s truth because of one word. The basis of the sermon was John 15:1-8. This is Christ’s dissertation on our abiding in Him and bearing fruit. He speaks of “fruit” and “more fruit” in v. 2 and “much fruit” in vs. 5, 8.

Let's Change It

One of the descriptions given to the cartoon character, Superman, at the opening of his television program was that he was “faster than a speeding bullet.” Today Superman has a rival in the speed in which apostasy (a total departure of one’s faith and religion) is taking over churches, Christian institutions and ministries. What an unusual time in which we live. Many of the Bible believing churches are dying or shrinking fast. Others have sold out to a contemporary god, changed their name and format and keep asking for funds.

Strong Delusion

The public is being bombarded with conflicting reports on almost an hourly basis. One side says that people are going back to work; their opponents say that jobs are scarcer. One side says that the little man is being helped financially; the other side says that the little man is suffering more than ever. The main line media says we are prospering due to the changes made by this administration and others are pointing out the decline in jobs, income and services. What we know is that both sides cannot be right.

The Person of Christ

Since the days of Cain, man has decided his own mode of worship. Cain knew what he should have done, just as Abel knew, but he chose not to bring the sacrifice that God required. When God refused his sacrifice, Cain became angry at Abel and killed him. We might sit here and think that Cain was mad at God and took out his anger on Abel and that is probably true, but the fact remains that Abel suffered at the hands of Cain. You would think that the situation would be directly between God and Cain and that Abel would not enter into the equation.
