The lesson on January 10, 2010 was an announcement that Rightdivision.com is being re-launched with updated technology. The original site was launch on November 24, 2000 and the intent was to help Christians rightly divide the word of truth. This motivation comes from 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." The original site that was launched was themystery.org which did not accomplish what Rightdivison.com has...
The lesson on January 17, 2010 was given by Derek McCammon on 2 Timothy 1:3-7 KJV "7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." There is evil in the world. We have challenges as Christians dealing with fear and it was the same thing that Timothy had a problem with. Timothy had challenges in Ephesus. Perhaps fear came to him because he was young. There were others that were smarter than him that were causing challenges in his ministry. In 1 Timothy 4:14 Paul was speaking of his gift, reminding him that God has given him the tools to be of sound mind. In chapter 6:17, we see that there are some rich people that Paul is reminding Timothy to address so they use their wealth wisely. When we were saved, God called us into the ministry and He has not left us alone. God tells us that there will be godly suffering in our walk. In 2 Timothy 1:8 Paul says not be ashamed of Christ and his ministry. Paul says God hasn't given US the spirit of fear.
The lesson on January 24, 2010 was given by Derek McCammon which continued the study on 2 Timothy 1:1-7 KJV. The scripture reading was in Mark 4:35-41 KJV "35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. 36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. 37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?" We learned in the first lesson that God was a giver but not the spirit of fear. The Devil gives fear. There are to kinds of fear, good and bad. In Matthew 10:28 KJV we see "28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." We are to have a good reverential fear of God. Fear seperates us from God because of sin (like we learned with Adam in Genesis 3). God has told us that there will be times when we are persecuted with afflictions that cause us fear but He has given us the key to overcome those fears in Christ.
The lesson on February 7, 2010 was a lesson covering Philippians 2:12-14 KJV "12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. 14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:". The scripture teaches us that Christians who live godly in this world will suffer persecution and afflictions. In looking up the definition in Noah Websters 1928 American Dictionary, the definition is provided with a reference to Lamentations 5:5 KJV "5 Our necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest." The world has many ways of putting godly people in a tough spot but Christ, prayer, and the word of God sees us through. As it says in Psalms 34:17-19 KJV "17 The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. 18 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. 19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all."
The lesson on February 14, 2010 was a continuation of the Spirit of Fear study with part 3. The scripture reading for this lesson was in Matthew 13:1-9 KJV "1 The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. 2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. 3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: 5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: 6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: 8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. 9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear."
The lesson on February 21, 2010 was the 4th lesson on the subject of fear. The source of fear is the devil and it's important to be familiar with his devices. We are told in Ephesians to beware of the wiles of the devil which is why God gave us the Armor of God. We have already received victory over the devil through calvary but he is actively trying to give us fear today to make us a casualty in our walk. In John 5:24 Jesus said in John 5:24 KJV "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."
The lesson on February 28, 2010 continued this series with part five and opens with the scripture reading in Matthew 4:1-11 KJV "1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him."
The lesson on March 7, 2010 was part 6 in this series and had the scripture reading in Romans 12:1-2 KJV "1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." It takes a lot of faith to say "this is good" when you are chasened with a bad event in your life. Faith is the antidote to fear. An antidote not only cures but prevents a person being affected by poison. Fear is the poison promoted by the devil and scripture is the antidote. The Lord showed us how to use the antidote when He was tempted by satan in the wilderness. Misplaced faith is a dangerous thing! The bible says have faith in God. Some people today think faith is "positive thinking". The object of your faith means everything. Faith in faith will not work because that is just faith in yourself. You will let yourself down all the time. In Romans 12, we see the bridge that covers the gap from fear to faith. This passage shows how you put faith into action.
The lesson on March 7, 2010 continued this series with lesson 7. The scripture reading was in Psalms 19:7-11 KJV "7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. 8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. 9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward." The study opened with Colossians 3:15-16 KJV which says "15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." We are to have the word of God in our hearts and mind because this is what gets you the power of God. We need the power because we have a warfare going on within us between the old and new nature. As it says in Ephesians 4:22-24 KJV "22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness." You put on the new man by renewing your mind with the word of God. Remember in Romans 12:2 KJV "2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." We are in a constant struggle with the old man.
The lesson on March 28, 2010 was the eighth lesson in the series "God Has Not Given Us the Spirit of Fear". The scripture reading was in John 15:9-14 KJV "9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. 10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. 11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. 12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you." What great love God has for us. As the song "Looking for Love (in all the wrong places)" demonstrates from the movie "Urban Cowboy", the world looks for love but it has confused love with lust. This lesson looks at the love that God has for us. The word of God is the power of God as we learned in Psalms 19:7-10 KJV. Examples were given from scripture wanting the power of God but they did not get it. On the cover of the March 8th edition of People Magazine, Carrie Underwood was quoted as saying "He Makes Me Feel So Special" speaking of her fiance Mike Fisher. Back in 2006, perhaps Sandra Bullock felt the same way about her new husband Jesse James. In 2010 it feel apart due to infidelity. Dare we mention Tiger Woods... Why doesn't the worlds recipie for love doesn't work? It's not God's definition of love.
The lesson on April 4, 2010 celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The scripture reading was in Luke 24:1-11 KJV "24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. 3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
The lesson on April 8, 2010 was the ninth lesson in the series. The scripture reading was in Psalms 27:1-8 KJV "27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. 3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
The lesson on April 18, 2010 was a study on the prophet Elijah. The scripture reading was in Malachi 4:4-6 KJV "4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. 5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse."
Sunday, April 25, 2010 Leland Maples was the guest teacher. Leland and Linda Maples run the LOOP's Ministry in Texas. LOOPS (Loved Ones Of PrisonerS), Inc. is a non-denominational, non-profit, religious organization dedicated to the support and restoration of prisoners and their families through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
On Sunday April 25, 2010 Valerie Sherrer, Development Director and Founder, gave a report of Novo Ministries.
Novo Ministries was birthed to introduce inner-city children to positive teaching and connect them with individuals who would mentor and love them. Our vision is to bring real and lasting life-change to inner–city communities. Our name, “Novo” is a Latin word meaning “to change” or “to make new”. We want to see lives changed and communities changed- from the inside out.
The lesson on May 2, 2010 started a new study entitled "From the Beginning". This study series will take us back and look at creation and then cover the history in the Old Testament. The scripture reading for this lesson was in Colossians 1:9-17 KJV "9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
The lesson on May 9, 2010 celebrated Mother's Day. The scripture reading was in Exodus 2:1-3 KJV "2 And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. 2 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months. 3 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink." This passage speaks to the love of a mother.
The lesson on May 16, 2010 was the second in the study series "From the Beginning" which covered the scripture reading in Psalms 104:1-9 KJV "1 Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.
The lesson on May 23, 2010 was the third lesson in the study series "From the Beginning" and started with the scripture reading in Psalms 104:19-24 KLV "19 He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down. 20 Thou makest darkness, and it is night: wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep forth. 21 The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God. 22 The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens. 23 Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening. 24 O Lord, how manifold are thy works!
The lesson on May 30, 2010 celebrated Memorial Day in America and shared the scripture reading in Ephesians 2:11-18 KJV "11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; 12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: 13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Part 4 of the From the Beginning study finished Psalms 104 on June 6, 2010. The scipture reading for this lesson is Psalms KJV 104:24-35 "24 O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches. 25 So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. 26 There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein. 27 These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.
The lesson on June 13, 2010 continued the study "From the Beginning" and opened with the scripture reading in Ps 105:1-7 KJV "1 O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. 2 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works. 3 Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord. 4 Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore. 5 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth; 6 O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.
The lesson on June 20, 2010 celebrated Father's Day and opened with the scripture reading from Prov 4:1-7 KJV "1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. 2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. 3 For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. 4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. 5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
The lesson on June 27th discussed the concept of expounding and the scripture passages that used the term "expounded" One scripture reading was found in Acts 28:23 KJV "And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening." Notice how long it took? The Apostle Paul expounded all day long. Today, the generations that exist have certain attributes th
The lesson on July 4, 2010 was in celebration of the United States Independence holiday. The scripture reading was in Psalms 33:6-12 KJV "6 By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. 7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. 9 For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
The lesson on July 11, 2010 looked at Proverbs 4:23 KJV which was "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." This lesson looks at the issues of life and the issues from death as referenced in Psalms 68:20 KJV "He that is our God is the God of salvation; and unto God the Lord belong the issues from death." We learned in John 3:17-21 KJV "17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
The sixth lesson in the study was given on Sunday July 18, 2010. The scripture reading was in Psalms 105:5-12 KJV "5 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth; 6 O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen. 7 He is the Lord our God: his judgments are in all the earth. 8 He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. 9 Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac; 10 And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: 11 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance: 12 When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it." The lesson took time to review God's marvellous works by taking a review of Genesis. Be sure to listen to all of the lessons in this study.
The lesson on July 25, 2010 was part seven of the From the Beginning series. The scripture reading was in Psalms 105:13-22 KJV "13 When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people; 14 He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; 15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. 16 Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread. 17 He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: 18 Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: 19 Until the time that his word came: the word of the Lord tried him. 20 The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free. 21 He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance: 22 To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom."
The lesson on August 1, 2010 was the 8th lesson in the From the Beginning series. The scripture reading was in Psalms 105:23-27 KJV "23 Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. 24 And he increased his people greatly; and made them stronger than their enemies. 25 He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal subtilly with his servants. 26 He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. 27 They shewed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham."
The 9th lesson in this series was given on August 8 2010 and covered the scriptures in From theBeginning Psalms 105:27-36 KJV "27 They shewed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham. 28 He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word. 29 He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish. 30 Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings. 31 He spake, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts.32 He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land.
The lesson on August 15, 2010 was the 9th lesson in the From the Beginning series. The scripture reading for this lesson was in Psalms 105:37-45 KJV "37 He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes. 38 Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them. 39 He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night. 40 The people asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. 41 He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.
The lesson on Sunday August 22, 2010 was the 11th lesson in the series entitled "From the Beginning". The scipture reading for this lesson was in Psalms 106:1-8 KJV "1 Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. 2 Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord? who can shew forth all his praise? 3 Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times. 4 Remember me, O Lord, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation; 5 That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance. 6 We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly. 7 Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea. 8 Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known." This lesson covers the history of Israel from Egypt to Sinai.
Sunday September 5th, the lesson was given by Leland Maples who was visiting for Labor Day weekend. The scripture reading was in Numbers 20: 7-12 KJV which says "7 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 8 Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. 9 And Moses took the rod from before the Lord, as he commanded him. 10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? 11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. 12 And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them." This lesson tells the story of how God did not let Moses take the children of Israel into the promised land because he did not obey God's word. This is a great story to hear Leland explain the holiness of God's word. Be sure and listen now.
The lesson on September 12, 2010 was reviewing the fire storm that a pastor started when his congregation decided to burn the Quran (Koran) on September 11th, commemorating the 9th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center in New York. This attack was pulled off by radical muslams who promote Islam over Christianity to the point of killing Christians and Americans. The scripture reading was in 2 Timothy 3:14-17 KJV "15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." One example of the American sentiment after 9-11 is a worrysome rant, which is a supposed email that is cirulating from an American Airlines pilot who wrote a letter entitled "You Worry Me". This letter was determined to be a fake, but exemplifies the feelings in America that would encourage the event down in Florida.
The audio lesson on September 19, 2010 picked back up with part 12 in the From the Beginning study. The scripture reading was in Psalms 106:21-25 KJV "21 They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt; 22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea. 23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them. 24 Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word: 25 But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord." It's always important to recognize milestones in scripture. Listen to this lesson to learn about some important milestones.
The lesson on September 26, 2010 was the 13th lesson in the From the Beginning series. The scripture reading was in Hebrews 3:12-19 KJV "12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. 13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. 14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. 15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
The lesson on October 3, 2010 was the 14th lesson in the From the Beginning series. The scripture reading was in Acts 13:16-20 KJV "16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience. 17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it. 18 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness. 19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot. 20 And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet."
The lesson on October 10, 2010 continued the study "From the Beginning" with part 15 in the series. The scripture reading for this lesson was in Deuteronomy 1:41-44 KJV "41 Then ye answered and said unto me, We have sinned against the Lord, we will go up and fight, according to all that the Lord our God commanded us. And when ye had girded on every man his weapons of war, ye were ready to go up into the hill. 42 And the Lord said unto me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies. 43 So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the Lord, and went presumptuously up into the hill. 44 And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah."
The lesson on October 17, 2010 was the 16th lesson in the "From the Beginning" audio study. This lesson started with the scripture reading of Psalms 106:24-31 KJV "24 Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word: 25 But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord. 26 Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness: 27 To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands. 28 They joined themselves also unto Baal-peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.
The lesson on October 24, 2010 was given by William Champion who had listened to an audio lesson by Leland Maples from the REC Room series entitled "What's In Your Hand?". This lesson expounds on that theme and covers the scripture reading from Exodus 4:1-4 KJV "1 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The Lord hath not appeared unto thee. 2 And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod. 3 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it. 4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:" After 40 years in Egypt, and 40 years as a shepherd, the Lord called Moses to do something for God... and all he needed was the rod that was in his hand. So the question goes out to all of us... what's in your hand? Are you doing the Lord's work?
The lesson on October 31, 2010 gave a quick prelude to the celebration of Halloween. What is the history of this holiday and is it something a Christian should celebrate? Listen now to this short lesson on Halloween and then decide.
The lesson on October 31, 2010 continued the study with part 17 of "From the Beginning". The scripture reading for this lesson was in Numbers 25:10-13 KJV "10 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy. 12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace: 13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel." This lesson is broken down into three categories: 1) God Speaks, 2) Man Listens, and 3) God Rewards. We see in Numbers chapter 25 an example of these principles.
The lesson on November 7, 2010 continued the From the Beginning study with part 18. The scripture reading was in Psalms 106:32-36 KJV "32 They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: 33 Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips. 34 They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the Lord commanded them: 35 But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works. 36 And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them. 37 Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, 38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood." This lesson starts with the thought that God is good. The world system is against the things of God. We see this in the history of Israel when they fell prey to the world with the lust of the flesh. It's the same today. There is apostasy in the pulpit and apathy in the pews. This lesson teaches on the error of Moses when he retrieved water from the rock for the nation of Israel in error. Moses did not follow the Lord's instruction. This error kept Moses from going into the promised land. We learn about anger and the proper way to handle it. Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:26 to be angry but sin not. Don't let angry become anger. The devil uses anger to provoke sin.
The lesson on November 14, 2010 was the 19th lesson in the study "From the Beginning". Ezekiel 16: 1-14 KJV was the scripture reading. "1 Again the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations, 3 And say, Thus saith the Lord God unto Jerusalem; Thy birth and thy nativity is of the land of Canaan; thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite. 4 And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all.
The lesson on November 21, 2010 was on Thanksgiving. The scripture of Colossians 4:2-6 KJV which says "2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; 3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: 4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. 5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
The lesson on November 28, 2010 continued the study From the Beginning with part 20. The scripture reading was in Isaiah 9:1-7 KJV "1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. 2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
The lesson on December 5, 2010 continued the study From the Beginning with part 21. The scripture reading was in Genesis 3:8-19 KJV "8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked?
The lesson on December 12, 2010 continued the study From the Beginning with lesson 22. This was the third lesson discussing Christmas this year. The scripture reading was in Malachi 3:1-6 KJV "1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts. 2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth?
The lesson on December 19, 2010 was on the Christmas Story. The scripture reading was in Luke 2:1-7 KJV "And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn." The world loves Christmas but doesn't love the Christ of Christmas. Listen to hear the story of how God put it off, put it on, and paid it all through the birth of Christ.
The lesson on December 26, 2010 was a second lesson about the birth of Jesus Christ. This lesson shows two actions of faith involved with those around his birth. It also explains why angels are only associated with the ministry of the nation Israel. The scripture reading for this lesson was in Luke 2:6-14 KJV "6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
