The Pledge of Allegiance. The recent terrorist attack on America has resulted in a national surge of patriotism and pride in the American Flag. The pledge of Allegience to America’s Flag was established in 1892, which happened to be on the 400 year anniversary of Columbus’ expedition. In 1954 the words “under God” were added by then President Dwight D.
Are you a fool for Christ? Throughout the years, individuals have provided us with a testimony of their love for Christ Jesus. From the street preacher to the most established ministry like that of Billy Graham, people have been called to provide their testimony for Christ.
Be Ready Always. 1 Pet 3:15 says “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: (KJV)” As Christians, we are asked to study the Bible to be prepared for any situation that presents itself where we will have an opportunity to give witness. Many issues, like homosexuality, are confronting the Christian today where the Bible is very clear when condemning sinful behavior.
The Ministry of Paul. God has given us a sound mind by giving us a specific calling in scripture apart from the nation of Israel. This calling is called “the Mystery” and is revealed to us through the Apostle Paul. Paul’s christian ministry began after his conversion on the road to Damascus in Acts 9. At this time he was called out and given instructions to go to the Jew first, then to the Greek. As we learn through the Acts, Paul continues to “graft” in Gentiles with the Abrahmic calling and it’s not until the end of Acts in chapter 28, does Paul reveal a new calling apart from Abraham.
Signs and Right Division. Mark 16:15-20 (KJV) says “15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
A Halloween Story. This time of year, it has become a popular tradition to celebrate Halloween with the promotion of all things “scarry”. On the surface, most folks like to dress up children and have them go door to door and receive either “tricks” or “treats”. Yet, the truth behind the halloween holiday is the promotion of evil that is against God. To the christian, there is nothing more scarry than being apart from God.
The Christian Conflict. As christians, we were once in darkness, but now we are to be light in the Lord. Therefore we are admonished to: walk as children of light. However, It’s usually much easier to “go along to get along” yet we’re told to “have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.“ This isn’t always easy. None of us enjoy a life of conflict but once we were saved, we are in opposition to the world and it’s dark ways. In this conflict, we find there are several forces that work against. First is the flesh.
The Pattern of Paul. As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, we are reminded to be thankful. Yet we see from 2 Timothy 3:1-2, that unthankfulness is one of the attributes of the last days of this dispensation. Do you practice thankfulness? A recent observation made by some missionaries about the American people was that they were a bunch of complainers and unthankful even though there are so many things to be thankful for. If America turns away from it’s Christian heritage and leans towards humanism or materialism, unthankfulness will be a result because the flesh is never satisfied.
Language and The Meaning of Words. In Bible study as well as every day conversation, language and words portray specific meanings. We know from Matt 12:36-37 that “...every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
Independence Day Commentary. July 4th in America celebrates the 227th anniversary of independence. No other country has held a single form of government for so long yet America’s christian-based republic is under attack by the spiritual decay of the American people. The founders of America based their government on scripture and finally gave God the credit for founding the country.
Those Things Believed Among Us. Luke 1:1 (KJV) states “Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,”. How would this apply to Christians today? We live in a world today where Christianity is under attack everywhere we turn. From taking the ten commandments out of our courthouses to eliminating prayer in public events, Christianity is losing ground to a secular, anti-God mindset.
Family Influence and Tradition. The lesson on October 26, 2003 has Clark Curry sharing the influence of good family tradition in our lives as Christians. His grandfathers favorite verse was in Philippians 4:13 (KJV) “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” The impact of family in our lives is so important to the proper growth of a Christian.
The lesson on April 25, 2008 was entitled "The Word of God" and the scripture reading was in 2 Timothy 2:16 KJV. "16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness."
The lesson on May 2, 2004 was entitled "The Word of God" and the scripture reading was in John 1:1-2,14 KJV. "1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."
The lesson on May 9, 2004 was celebrating Mother's Day and the scripture reading was in Proverbs 31:9-12 KJV. "9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy. 10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life."
The lesson on May 30, 2004 celebrated Memorial Day in America. The scripture reading was in John 15:13 KJV. "13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
The lesson on August 1, 2004 was entitled "Created in the Image of God". The scripture reading was in Genesis 1:26 KJV. "26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."
The lesson on March 6, 2005 was entitled "Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth". The scripture reading was in Ephesians 5:1-2 KJV. "5 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour."
