Last time we looked at the last portion of chapter 14. The issues related to prophecy and women teachers in the church. It was found that men and women were to function differently in the church and that this was not something that was found in only one age but was rooted in the Genesis of mankind and hence inter dispensational. These different functions are not surprizing when one considers the differences both morphological and psychological. The Christian faith proposes the best model of functionality and peace from God. Rebellion to this will have its fruits and we see much of that today.
Last time we looked at the first 10 verses of 1 Cor. 15 which talks about the foundation of the gospel. We noted that there is an awkward "if" in the salvation condition which we discovered expressed the fact that the gospel that was received and in which the Corinthian believers stood would result in salvation if they held in what word Paul preached to them. Paul clearly received by revelation the gospel and yet it was also according to scriptures. We also learnt abouty the untimely birth (abortion) mentioned in vs 8.
The importance of the resurrection of Christ has many facets. In today's talk we shall look at the topic of the logic of the resurrection of Christ.
Last time we looked at the logical argument that Paul brought forward for the resurrection of the redeemed and Christ. This was constructed very carefully and started upon the evidence of Christ's resurrection through the witnesses documented including the above 500, many of whom were currently alive to bear living testimony of this. We shall now proceed further into the secrets of the son.
Last time we looked at the idea of sleep as it pertains to the metaphor of death for the Christian. Time is relative, and what we know about time from Physics is that it is present within our "thing" or matter - energy universe -- taken outside that and it need not be there. If the spirit goes back to God and God is fundamentally outside His creation then the spirit is not subject to time and if "sleep" is a metaphor for death then resurrection is an awakening. Sleep is a form of unconsciousness and therefore time has no meaning. We breath out at death and we breath into our resurrected body. With respect to our time frame we move out and into the time dimension seamlessly with no delay regardless of how much time moves by on earth.
Last time we examined some practical teaching as it relates to keeping bad company and what this can mean for many including young and immature christians. The main thought is contextually about those who hold to incorrect notions of the resurrection.
Last time we looked at the issue of a "soulish" person and a "spiritual" person and the fact that the immortal body will be "spiritual". We look forward to the new body for many reasons -- not only is it the means for us to experience eternal life but it is the way we enjoy it as well. The bare grain of 15:37 is how the body was set up originally -- a far cry from the resurrected body (that which shall be). The specific resurrection mentioned here is that which occurs at the last trum and is found in Matt 24:29-35, 1 Thess.4:16 and Rev. 11:15,16. These passages have nothing to say about our hope which was hid in God.
Last time we looked at the teaching of "Jew first" in the Acts and its impact on churches in Galatia and throughout the world as they felt the force of the imperative Paul gave them to look after the needy in Jerusalem. Paul ends the section in 16:9 saying that a great door and effectual is opened unto him and that there were many adversaries. We should not be surprized at the greatness of the door that has been opened to us to make known the fellowship of the mystery and to expect an even greater adversary.
There are two schools of thought in regard to the special revelation that God gave Paul regarding the Gentiles (Colossians 1:25-27.) There is a group of good, dedicated Christians who adhere to the Acts 13 position and there is another group of good, dedicated Christians who cling to the Acts 28 position. Having been in both groups at different times and having great respect for the leaders in both of these positions, I will list what I believe are the scriptural reasons I have selected one position over the other.
